History: Before the revolution, the estate, that is now divided into the three "Leoville" chateaux, was one immense domaine belonging to Alexandre de Gasq. After the revolution, Jean de Gasq took control of the largest section of the vineyard, and subsequently gave part of this land as his daughter's dowry when she married the Baron Poyferre. Since the 1920's, it has been owned by the Medoc wine firm of Cuvelier et Fils.
